A little belated write-up on Full Buck Moon Mask #3.

When Full Buck Moon # 1 (Buckmoonster Fuller) sold in early 2022, and the purchaser agreed to let it stay on the wall throughout my busy season, I didn’t anticipate a second customer wandering in and falling in love with my quirky antler’d Moon Mask…but she did. What ensued was my first commission work to create Full Buck Moon # 2 (write up here: https://clayandbone.com/portfolio/full-buck-moon-version-2/ ) which I did after the busy 2022 Café/Gallery season had ended.

After selling – in fairly short order – two of my Full Buck Moon masks, it made absolute sense to create a third, for display at Shavasana Gallery & Café https://shavasana.ca/clay-bone-studio/ . So, once Moon #2 had been approved, purchased and hung, and the onslaught of Christmas had been dealt with, I turned my mind towards making Moon Mask #3. “There’s something in the enigmatic smile, and the comfortable familiarity of the Full Moon that must be so alluring”, I thought. “Also It has a happier visage than most of my other masks, so perhaps people are looking for something a little more uplifting.” Whatever the pull (maybe it was gravitational!😆), when March 2023 rolled around, and the days were longer & the light a bit more favourable, I remembered that I had a stash of clay, a new set of antlers and a little time and inclination to create a new mask. 

So, here are a few early pics of Full Buck Moon # 3 from creation to curing, firing & painting …

…and the final product, painted, antler’d, & hung – with just a glimpse of a First-Prize Blue Ribbon that I won at Mayne Island’s annual Fall Fair!…and it can be yours for just $685!

As much as I enjoy the process of creating these masks, the demands of a busy Gallery Café, and my current focus on writing is redirecting my energies towards this latter passion…but…there’s still a hefty ball of clay and a few sets of antlers waiting for me at the studio 🤔💡
